The Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology was established according to Decision No. 1277 / QĐ – DHCN dated 28/12/2007 by the Rector of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly was the Experimental Center of Food Technology – Biology – Environment.IBF comprises four departments: Food Technology, Food Quality Management, Biotechnology, and Nutrition and Food Science, which offer four majors: Food Engineering Technology, Biotechnology, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, and Nutrition and Food Science. The institute has more than 30 laboratories and an experimental garden equipped with modern facilities for teaching and research.
The mission of IBF is to provide human resources with high professional qualifications, skills, and knowledge to practice in scientific research and technology transfer related to biotechnology and food technology. The vision of IBF is to become an accredited research and training institute, leading in the related fields of biotechnology and food technology in Vietnam, and as qualified as research and education institutes in other ASEAN countries.
In 2022, the Food Technology and Biotechnology majors received accreditation from ABET (USA), while the Master’s program in Food Technology was certified by MOET through the Ministry of Education and Training (Vietnam). From 2023 to 2025, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance, and Nutrition and Food Science programs will register for AUN-QA accreditation (ASEAN).
IBF regularly collaborates with businesses in the biotechnology, food technology, and related fields to conduct various activities such as training, teaching, seminars, technology transfer, and consultation to connect businesses.
